The voluntary and community sector provides essential, life-enhancing services to the most vulnerable people in our society. ICT can help these organisations to enhance their communications and fundraising activities.
But the cost of implementing ICT, along with a lack of interest in the sector from many ICT service providers has allowed a ‘digital divide’ to emerge between the private sector and the community sector.
In 2002, the government minister for e-commerce and corporate social responsibility opened “a unique initiative, a new way forward and a model for others to follow across the UK” - the charity 3tc.
3tc offers help and support for voluntary and community groups that want to exploit ICT. It helps with first steps, such as business planning and developing new skills, right up to providing sophisticated networks, IT environments and multimedia projects.
We use our vast experience and expertise to enable SMEs and public sector organisations to innovate with technology. Our profits help 3tc deliver grassroots projects that make ICT affordable and accessible to those groups tackling social exclusion.
