Company Info :: History of 3tc
3tc's roots go back more than 10 years to the creation of Sefton Neighbourhood Initiative Project (SNIP). Working out of a school classroom in a deprived area of Merseyside and with just one member of staff, SNIP provided training and print & design services to local community groups.
Over the years, the outfit grew, taking on more staff whose vision and commitment enabled SNIP to expand its range of services in the fields of training and communications and also in recycling redundant computers for re-use in the voluntary sector.
In 2000, SNIP was awarded a grant of £4.69m from the government's Single Regeneration Budget, which provided the catalyst for the organisation's sharpest growth. SNIP acquired a new building and established a state-of-the-art flagship technology centre for the third sector; the 3tc project.
In 2002 SNIP changed its name to Merseyside Third Sector Technology Centre (3tc). This was a vital and visible reflection of its ability to provide a wider range of services to groups and communities across Merseyside.
Now employing over 50 staff from diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of specialist skills, 3tc has the capacity to make a significant and lasting impact on the community.
3tc continues to innovate in pursuit of its objectives, ensuring that the services it provides are demand-led. We are working to bridge the 'digital divide' by advancing and enhancing the understanding and use of ICT in the third sector and in communities and organisations tackling social exclusion.
:: Funded for growth
A mix of funding streams has enabled 3tc to develop. Funding has come from the local authority, charitable trusts, income from services, European Social and Regional Development Funding, the National Lottery Charities Board, the Northwest Development Agency and the Barings Foundation.
The overall budget to deliver the project is now in excess of £14m. 3tc is an aspiring social enterprise working towards sustainability
